BISP Kafaalat: Quarterly Payments Increased to Rs 13,500
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has announced a significant increase in quarterly payments under its Kafaalat initiative, offering vital financial support to millions of vulnerable families across Pakistan.
Increased Payment Amount
Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, revealed that the quarterly assistance for registered families would rise by Rs 3,000. This increase elevates the total payment to Rs 13,500 per quarter, up from the previous Rs 10,500. The revised payment structure will take effect starting January 2025, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to mitigate the challenges posed by rising inflation and economic instability.
About the BISP Kafaalat Programme
Launched in 2008, the BISP Kafaalat initiative is the largest cash transfer programme in Pakistan's history. It serves as a critical lifeline for disadvantaged households, focusing on both immediate financial relief and long-term poverty reduction.
Short-Term Objectives: The programme aims to shield vulnerable families from the adverse effects of inflation, escalating food prices, and stagnant economic growth.
Long-Term Goals: It strives to eradicate extreme poverty, empower women, and contribute to Pakistan’s achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Currently, the BISP Kafaalat programme supports over 9.3 million families nationwide, with plans to expand its reach to 10 million families by 2025.
Expanded Withdrawal Options
In response to frequent complaints about long wait times at Habib Bank Limited (HBL) branches, the government has added several new banks to facilitate smoother withdrawals. Beneficiaries can now access their payments through the following financial institutions:
1. Bank Al Falah
2. Bank of Punjab
3. Mobilink Microfinance (JazzCash)
4. Telenor Microfinance Bank
5. Habib Bank Limited (HBL)
6. HBL Microfinance
This expansion is expected to significantly reduce delays and improve accessibility for families across Pakistan.
A Lifeline for Marginalised Communities
With inflation and economic uncertainty impacting millions, the increased quarterly payment and expanded banking options signal the government’s dedication to supporting Pakistan’s most vulnerable citizens. By continuing to grow the BISP Kafaalat programme, the government is taking crucial steps toward a more inclusive and economically resilient future.
The increase in financial assistance will not only provide immediate relief but also empower families to pursue better opportunities, fostering long-term social and economic development.
